A Mother's Love
for mezzo soprano, clarinet, violin, cello, and piano
A Mother’s Love was commissioned by Keira Jett through the Senior Experience Fund at Lawrence University. The poetry, researched and selected by Keira, is by African American women involved in the US abolitionist movement. This poetry focuses on the experience and pain of Black women whose families were torn apart by slavery, and pleads with White Americans, especially fellow mothers, to consider their own love their children, and call for an end to slavery.
