Consortium for Sonata for Alto and Tenor Saxophone and Piano

I am proud to announce a consortium for a new sonata for alto/tenor saxophonist and piano led by the McAllister/Ames Duo.

This new sonata will be a 15 to 20-minute dramatic work that embraces both tradition and innovation of the sonata form and the saxophone itself. The work will employ a combination of the alto and tenor saxes highlighting the lyrical ability and power of both instruments. The piano will be an equal partner, and the virtuosity of both players will be on display throughout the work.

About the Composer
Williams’s works for saxophone range from solo offerings to quartets, octets, and multiple concerti. These works have been written for and performed by luminary musicians such as Ryan Muncy, Tower Duo, Nick Zoulek, Coalescent Quartet, ~Nois, and many more. His unaccompanied alto sax piece Rock Steady was recently featured as required repertoire for both the NASA and Vandoren Reeds Young Artist Competitions. His works have been featured at the Navy Band Saxophone Symposium and multiple NASA conferences, including a recent premiere of his sax choir work Color Theory by the Ohio State Saxophone Studio at the 2026 Biennial Conference.

Williams seeks to blend the simple and the complex, along with the beautiful and disquieting. His work was praised as having “a tendency to work its way from avant-garde harshness to tender new-romanticism while underscoring unifying elements between the two…. There are sounds that are cloud-like, enveloped with atmosphere, and then there are others that sound like metal coffee shop chairs being dragged along stained tile… and your ears swear they can still hear the beauty.” [Tone Madison].
